Anthropology Dept. Archaeology Program Labs Home Page Equipment & Supplies Reserving Equipment
Demand for equipment use is high. To avoid scheduling conflicts, consult the labs manager before planning classes or projects that will require use of equipment. In cases of conflicting requests, the labs manager will consult with the department chair to determine which request(s) take priority. If you need lab equipment that is not left out for general use, see the labs manager. It's a good idea to telephone or e-mail ahead of time, in case the equipment is in deep storage or out for repair. When preparing for field work, give the labs manager a list of the equipment/supplies you will be needing well ahead of the time you plan to leave. Make the list as detailed and thorough as possible (there's a check list to help jog your memory). The labs manager will go over the list with you, noting whats available, what needs to be acquired, and how the acquisition is to be accomplished. Do not wait until the last minute to ask for and/or check things out. The labs manager may not be there at the last minute; or it may take longer than you think to get things out; or the equipment and/or supplies may not be available (sometimes equipment is already checked out to somebody else, or it may be broken and/or out for repairs or maintenance). Planning ahead avoids unnecessary crises. When you check the equipment out, the labs manager will record all the items on an official sign-out form. By signing the form you agree to be responsible for the proper use and care of the equipment in the field, and that the equipment will be returned clean and in good condition. |
