Archaeological Investigations at Kualoa Regional Park Kualoa Regional Park is located on the windward side of O'ahu Island, Hawaii. It is part of the ahupua'a of Kualoa, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as being of Statewide significance for its mythological and legendary importance to the Hawaiian people. Archaeological field work was conducted at Kualoa Park between 1973 and about 1991, in conjunction with various park development activities by the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Parks and Recreation. During the course of that work, an extraordinary amount of information was gained about the area through historical research, archaeological excavation, and associated laboratory recording of materials recovered during the field work. Information on this work can be found in several unpublished archaeological reports, and an unpublished M.A. thesis, but no source is presently available to make the results of the work at Kualoa accessible to the general public. A web site is presently being developed to make some of this information available in a more accessible format. Please check back periodically for more information.
