University of Hawaii, Department of Anthropology Picture of one of the fish recorded in our archaeology lab's Fishbone Reference Collection. This collection is used by archaeologists to identify fish bones found in archaeological sites by comparing the archaeological samples with known and identified bones. Results of such analysis can provide archaeologists with data ranging from prehistoric dietary information, the nature of prehistoric technologies and economies, and about environmental change and/or stability over time.
